Badshahi Masjid, Lahore

Here are a few photographs of the Badshahi Mosque in Lahore from the rooftop of Cuckoo’s Cafe. I had never imagined looking at it like this before. If the lighting leaves something to be desired, at least, it suggests a nicer way of illuminating such structures at night in the absence of oil lamps and candlelight. To think of Aurangzeb—the mosque’s commissioner—is quite an abomination, but to contemplate the nameless artisans who put themselves to work at such a grand architectural feat is heartening.
